Yummy Healthly Smoothie – get your veggies in!

1 cup organic frozen strawberries
½ cup organic frozen blueberries
½ cup coconut mile unsweetened (add more if not using cranberry juice)
¼ cup cranberry juice organic unsweetened (optional)
1 scoop RAW protein
¼ inch organic raw ginger
2 dashes organic cinnamon ½ packet stevia (or to taste)
1 or 2 cups organic raw spinach
You can substitute this with different fruits – but delicious! Add spinach and coconut milk + cranberry juice + ginger to cusinart or blender. Blend very well. Spinach should be in very little pieces before adding additional items. Add strawberries (I usually put in microwave for about 20 seconds as they are hard to blend totally frozen), add all other additional items. Blend well. And add more liquid (water, cranberry juice or coconut milk) as needed. For me this usually comes out in 1.5 servings or 2 servings. And either I share it with Sophia or freeze the other half for the next day. Enjoy!
Migraines and Weather

So I have been doing so great – this is my best year so far in the Ménière’s disease and Migraine world for me (year 3). But what has alluded me so far has been total good health. No matter what I do, I seem to be sick at least once a month. AND my worst months seem to be when the seasons are changing drastically so in October/November, and March/April. So I am going to be doing my own research. That research will be on weather and my migraines. I KNOW they are related. Here is a quick article I found that seems to think MAYBE there is a correlation, click here.
Day 1 research: Started getting sick yesterday – and guess what? BIG storm last night and storms all day….hmmmm…..sounds like it is related! So will keep track and go from here. Pressure at 30.18

Team in Training – Triathlon

Well, after my Team In Training Meeting on Saturday it was very clear that everyone I talked to thought a Century Ride was a bit ambitious for some one who has never done any kind of event like this. So I have gone back to my original plan of doing the Sprint Tri in Charlotte, NC - June. More to update later – here we go!

Found a great new recipe! This was so yummy! Click here to go to Laura’s Lean Beef to get the recipe. To make this migraine friendly for me – I substituted the onions for green onions, took out the currants, and used Quinoa instead of cous cous and added double the FRESH apricots. It was super yummy. So glad I took the time to make this. It was even better the next day for lunch. Enjoy! And thanks Laura’s Lean Beef for a great new meal for my family! PS: You might need to explain to a child before hand what they are eating. Sophia thought she was eating just quinoa and was very confused after the first bite!
And did you know Qunioa was good for Migraines? WHO KNEW! Its high in magnesium which is awesome for us migraine sufferers! (It also has a high protein count).
Team in Training – Lake Tahoe

I have been inspired! When one is sick – one can certainly recognize the plight of others who are sick in a different way than if you did not have an illness yourself. Although my 2 illness are not life threatening they debilitating none the less and I have been inspired by two people who have recently come down with a blood cancer. It is because of that inspiration I am going to join Team In Training to do a Century Bike Ride (100 miles, 1 day) in Lake Tahoe. I am nervous and scared but mostly concerned that I may not feel well enough frequently and will miss training days. But since this is my best season yet and I have felt better recently then I have in 2 ½ years (due to taking great care of myself!) I am going to give it a shot! In have been inspired!
A quick note on the people who have inspired me:
A woman I knew in Atlanta years ago, I’ll call her Hope, (since I don’t have her permission to use her name), was diagnosed with lymphoma when she was pregnant (2009) with her first child. When I first heard this I closed my office door and cried. This girl, Hope, was certainly one of the most stunningly beautiful women I had ever known – literally beautiful, and a kind woman, full of life – she is YOUNG. Having had recently been pregnant when I heard this my heart ached for her and her new baby. I think she even had to have treatments while the baby was in the uterus. I prayed for her everyday and kept up with her through her website on Caringbridge.com. She inspired me each day – amazingly – her attitude was positive. She had an attitude of gratitude and worked her rear end off to stay spiritually fit and close to other women. This was evident through everything she said and thought on the bridge. The best part for me about her posting on caringbridge.com was I could read and reread everything she wrote when I was feeling sick. I was strengthened by how strong she was. She helped me so much and she doesn’t even know it. Hope was blessed enough to have a Team In Training in her and her baby’s name after her baby was born. It seemed to help her as well. This lovely woman is now in remission and pregnant again. I think of her frequently and pray for her often, she is an amazing women.
The next person I will write about is my cousin Ernie. He recently passed away from Leukemia in December. He fought all the way too – until they told him it was useless to fight anymore. Ernie was an amazing father who had two great adult children and two beautiful granddaughters. He was happily married and an avid outdoorsman. He was kind and funny and had a beautiful love for God which helped inspire his girls. It is such a shame to have lost him. But he leaves behind a legacy of love and hope. My sister did a Team In Training Olympic Triathlon in his name in September. I hope he felt the love from that work. A very important thing I learned when Ernie was sick was how easy it was and is to donate your bone marrow. No longer are the days when you just have to use the bone marrow out of your hip in a semi painful procedure to donate. There are other options! You can now take a certain drug to build up your marrow for one week and then donate your blood. It is JUST THAT EASY to help save a life! Contact Be the Match by clicking here to get your kit for donation today. All you have to do is swab your check four times. If you are a match to someone the National Marrow Organization will contact you for further testing. If you are a positive match you go through the process and then possibly SAVE A LIFE. Totally worth time. I do wish my cousin didn’t have to die for me to learn this but I am glad to at least know it now.
It is because of these people above that I have had the inspiration to attempt this Century Ride and why I am going to raise $4,000 for blood cancer research and patient services. Now I just need a rode bike and some padded bike shorts! Here I go……………..
Ginger + Feverfew = Migraine Free (almost!)
19 Jan 2011 Leave a Comment
I have found a new and wonderful method for keeping my migraines at bay and wanted to pass it along.
My body has been craving ginger recently. I have been putting it in everything, tea, meals, and smoothies. So I wondered what the medicinal benefits of ginger was – I believe that if my body is craving something then I must really need it. Guess what? I have come across a study that was completed a few years back which says ginger can help prevent migraines! Then I found another study of migraine suffers who took fever few AND ginger regularly and it was found that 82 % of them had much fewer migraines! Amazing! No wonder I have had the best fall/winter season since my migraines began. I take 455mgs of fever twice a day and put ginger in everything. (please speak to your Dr before taking anything!)
So here is to a migraine free day! Eat your ginger!

Easy, Black bean lunch
27 Oct 2010 Leave a Comment
Quick, simple, easy and healthy lunch! This will last you at least three lunches. Enjoy!
1 can of organic black beans
1 can of organic corn
1 green onion chopped
1 green pepper chopped ( add a red one too for more color and Vitamin A)
handfull of grape tomatoes cut in half
1 tsp of chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cumin if you want it
HOW TO: I always cook my beans in the micro or oven quickly before I use them. Just takes a second. Combine all the ingredients minus the spices. Mix the spices in a separate bowl and sprinkle on top of the beans and veggies while stirring. This dish is super yummy warm, the beans warm it up nicely. And in my opinion always better the day after the flavors have married a bit. And of course it is always fun to chop up all your ingredients first then have your little people poor everything in the bowl for you and help you sprinkle the spices on the food.
All these foods are questionable on whether or not they are migraine friendly, so you will need to do your food testing before making this recipe if you are prone to food related migraines. Thankfully, I can eat all these foods! I think a good addition to this dish would be chopped up avocado, which my migraines make me avoid, sadly!
QUOTE (Blessing) FOR THE DAY : May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude. – Anonymous

Wow, so I saw this article today and had to pass it along to others. It makes me super sick. WOW. Click here to read more from the Huffington Post.
I now feel super guilty that I ever let Sophia even try chicken nuggets. Never again. Little happy people like the one shown below do not need to eat this nasty stuff!
